I thought we launched a Watch App. But what I felt was completely different.

We’ve been a bit busy this year at Trainerize.

Well, a bit busy is definitely an understatement.

First, there was the immediate and drastic impact of COVID-19 on the fitness industry. This huge hurdle for our customers required some major pivots for our organization. These pivots included shifting our development roadmap to make sure we were supporting trainers and clubs as much as possible during these difficult times for the industry.

Following COVID’s outbreak in North America, we saw a big boom of video in the fitness industry. Remember all those Facebook Lives? So, we started building some more video features — including improved on-demand video capabilities and live 1–1 video calling, for video coaching sessions.

As the months passed, we’ve had to evolve — and we’ve seen clubs and trainers do the same.

It’s been incredible to see the creativity and entrepreneurship of fitpros, tackling this new challenge and coming out stronger and more agile than ever before!

Then, Apple announced their priorities for their upcoming releases, including a significant focus on health and fitness, as well as the Watch. Which got me pretty stoked…

Because just a few weeks ago, Trainerize announced something I’ve been super pumped about for a long time: our all-new Apple Watch app.

The Apple Watch App powered by Trainerize

With the launch, we’ve got an exciting list of new features already available, and lots more in the pipeline!

Today, clients can follow workouts, track fitness data, and manage habits, all from their wrists — and they can leave their phones at home while they do it.

If you’ve got questions about the app itself, the team at Trainerize has done an awesome job of highlighting the all-new Apple Watch app features, as well as our future plans for it.

Check out the video which I’m especially proud of, not just because our team created it, but because it truly highlights how Trainerize on the Apple Watch app can influence a person to live a better life daily.

But while we’re here, let me tell you a bit about what it means to me — and how I see it impacting people’s lifestyles.

What the Apple Watch App means to me

This announcement is particularly momentous for me, because I wear an Apple Watch every day. I interact with apps on my Watch every single day. Text messages, Starbucks, PaybyPhone… These are everyday apps for me.

As the CEO of Trainerize, I knew the team was hard at work on the Apple Watch app. But it kind of showed up like magic. One day, I looked down at my wrist and saw the Trainerize logo pop up.

WOW. My company’s logo, sitting on this really cool device. The most-sold device in the world right now. The sense of pride I felt was incredible. And that feeling is what I’m most excited for with this new expansion of Trainerize.

I have an emotional connection to the Trainerize brand, and I feel the power of having the brand on everyone’s Watch every day.

The best part is that our personal trainers and gym customers will get to experience that same feeling of pride. They’re business owners too, and now they can have their logo on their client’s iPhones & Watches too.

A lifestyle shift with the Watch

Our new Apple Watch app is not just about training from the wrist — it’s about integrating trainers into client lifestyles.

These trainers get to join their clients for their day-to-day lives, and then influence their health and fitness decisions. Through the Watch app, coaches are really helping people make positive choices every day. And that’s the key — it’s not just an app, it’s a connection to a real person, who built a personalized program for that client.

There are plenty of workout apps out there, even for the Watch. And yes, the Trainerize app supports workouts. But the Trainerize app will infuse user’s lives with healthy choices, informed by their trainer.

Let’s say I’m a Trainerize user

If I’m at home, why not cast my workouts from the app to Apple TV?

If I’m out and about, why not do a bodyweight workout at the park, or run home and track the cardio?

Maybe I’m grabbing a smoothie, and the app influences the food choices I make.

In the evening, I might be deep in fitness TikTok… and a reminder pops up for my bedtime routine habit. This reminder might encourage me to minimize my screen time before bed, to hydrate, or to focus on the book I’m reading — all of which will improve my sleep.

For all of these activities, I’m being influenced by my coach, through the app. For the workouts, I have a set number of training sessions for the week. For nutrition, I know I’m going to have to check off those healthy eating habits with my coach on the app, and that motivates me to pick healthier choices. For habits, there’s a reminder to initiate healthy actions, which builds to make big changes.

At Trainerize, we call this combination of fitness, nutrition, and habits a 360° approach to health and wellness.

As a Trainerize user, I’m living my life every day, and every choice I make that has to do with health and wellness, is influenced by my trainer — and now, from the wrist, on the go. I am so excited to see how our Apple Watch app continues to evolve the digital fitness space — and this is just the beginning.
